Bailey, the teenager
Bailey is a beautiful, brilliant, effortlessly graceful teenage granddaughter. I find that she is truly humbling—mainly because she’s better at everything than I’ve ever been.
She glides through life like a runway model, casually moving and creating the latest technology while I’m still figuring out my phone settings.
She’s creative, thoughtful, and somehow wise beyond her years, which means she now gives me advice.
When she is explaining life to me, I nod knowingly, as if I, too, understand current slang.
Sometimes she will share some of her dreams, opinions, and discoveries with a mix of confidence and vulnerability, but others she keeps locked inside.
Watching her grow is a privilege—and a daily reminder that our family genes clearly upgraded themselves somewhere along the way.
Gracie, the pre-schooler
Being Gracie’s grandmother, or Gaga as she has named me, is every day full of the sweetest gifts of a four-year-old’s goofy, funny, brilliantly curious life.
She wakes up laughing and goes to bed asking questions. She loves people fiercely, greeting strangers like future friends and hugging family like she hasn’t seen them in years.
From zumba class to tennis practice to library story time, her calendar is busier than mine. I get a front-row seat to her discoveries, her jokes, and her big ideas.
Watching her grow is pure joy, and I treasure every sparkling, silly moment we share.
